Regional Preparatory Meeting to the World Water Forum 6 comes to an end

On November 15, 2011 ended the two-day Regional Preparatory Meeting to the World Forum 6, in Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel, Tbilisi. The event was organized by the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus), with the financial support of the governments of Swiss Confederation and France - via International Office for Water. Coordinator of the Europe Region Process - World Water Forum 2012 and the General Manager of the International Office for Water - Mr. Jean-Francois Donzier attended the meeting with the ambassador of Swiss Confederation H. E. Geunter Baechler, underlying the importance of regional cooperation for successful transboundary river management in the welcoming remarks. Mission of the conference was to share information on the background processes for the 6th World Water Forum. World Water Forum itself has been the world's largest meeting around water issues since 1997. As the Forum's official web-site states, the forum's preparatory processes combine thematic, regional and political activities. These processes mobilize thousands of water stakeholders over the 5 continents and culminate in the Forum week this time in Marseilles. Participants of the event included officials from participating countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, embassies, international organizations and academic sector. The parties agreed on advancing regional cooperation and dialogues for attaining common goal of successful water resource management. Participants of the conference assessed the meeting as very productive and informative.
