YEREVAN, JULY 13, NOYAN TAPAN. Rudolf Perina, Charge
d'Affaires of the United States, and Serge Sargsian, the Prime
Minister of the Republic of Armenia, had a meeting on July 12,
during which they touched upon the subject of the broadcast of
the programs of the Armenian service of the "Azatutiun"
(Liberty) radio station. According to the information provided
to Noyan Tapan by the Information and Public Relations'
Department of the RA Government, Rudolf Perina mentioned that,
irrespective of the fact that this issue is presented as an
alleged problem in contractual relations, nevertheless,
according to him, if there are problems, then they should be
solved and should not become food for anxiety. The Prime
Minister repeated what he had said during his meeting with
Anthony Godfrey, the former Ambassador, mentioning that they
have never made a decision in respect of limiting or prohibiting
the broadcasts of the "Azatutiun" (Liberty) radio station and
that this problem should not be considered with this regard.
This issue, according to the Prime Minister, concerns the
regulation of certain problems, in the direction of which the
President of the Council of the Television and Radio Company is
conducting negotiations with the management of the Armenian
service of the "Azatutiun" (Liberty) radio station. The Prime
Minister made assertions that he will again refer to this
problem in case of necessity depending on the results of the
negotiations. Rudolf Perina considered this step to be a quite
right one and mentioned that if there are misunderstandings with
regard to technical questions, then, they should, no doubt, be
solved during the negotiations.
