YEREVAN, DECEMBER 14, NOYAN TAPAN. Inhabitants of the
Aghayan 19 and Terian 56 buildings of Yerevan attempt to save
trees of the neighbouring park. A special commission was formed
for that purpose. NA deputy Khachatur Sukiasian and honourary
citizen of the city of Yerevan, composer Tigran Mansurian were
also involved in the commission staff.
In words of commission coordinator Ruben Torosian, still in
2000 the "Nushikian" association got permission on cutting 20
thick-trunk trees of that territory and construction of a
building which, according to the acting order, was invalid in a
year. And though new permission was not got, the association
attempts to start the felling and construction.
The inhabitants organized a demonstration of protest on
December 9, expressing their resoluteness to save the park from
the felling. Karine Danielian, the former Minister of Nature
Protection, a member of the City Building Council attached to
the Mayor's Office also participated in the demonstration.
Kentron community head Gagik Beglarian was also present at the
demonstration. He assured that no construction will be
implemented in that territory.
At the December 12 meeting with the commission protecting
the rights of inhabitants of the mentioned buildings, Yerevan
Mayor Yervand Zakharian stated that the construction actions in
that territory are illegal and must be prohibited. But the
Mayor's Office did not take any practical step in this
direction. As a result, the "Nushikian" association has already
fenced the park, preparing for the construction works.
The commission addressed with the given issue to the RA
Prosecutor's General Office as well.
