MUSIC OF ARMENIAN DUDUK PROCLAIMED AS MANKIND'S ORAL AND
NON-MATERIAL CULTURAL MASTERPIECE

PARIS, NOVEMBER 30, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. On
November 25 the music of the Armenian duduk (Armenian national
pipe) was proclaimed by UNESCO as one of the oral and
non-material cultural masterpieces of mankind.
In the sphere of non-material cultural inheritance one of
the important programs carried out by UNESCO is the proclamation
of the masterpieces of mankind's oral and non-material cultural
inheritance. This is a program implemented at a large
international scale. UNESCO initiated this program in 1997 in
order to preserve the cultural inheritance at the international
level.
The proclamation of the Armenian duduk music as a cultural
oral and non-material masterpiece of the mankind is the 3rd one
within the above-mentioned program's framework.
As Noyan Tapan was informed by the RA Foreign Ministry's
Press and Information Department, the program will continue
until the Convention comes into effect, and the proclaimed
masterpieces will be included in the honorary list of
Non-material cultural inheritance attached to the Convention.
