YEREVAN, June 18 (Noyan Tapan). On June 15, newly appointed
RA Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs called Gohar
Harutiunian, Director-Founder of the House-Museum of Aram
Khachaturian, to the Ministry and demanded that she should
submit an application on retiring.
Gohar Harutiunian said during the June 17 press conference
that this conversation was unexpected for her. According to
her, the arrangements dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Aram
Khachaturian started last year haven't been completed yet. Part
of these arrangements was organized by the museum. "I devoted
all my life to the establishment of the museum. The museum is
the result of the daily work during 27 years. Where shall I go
now?" said Gohar Harutiunian.
Composer Levon Chaushian, Chairman of the Armenian Musical
Forum, a violoncellist of the quartette after Komitas, musical
critic Margarit Rukhikian, who were present at the press
conference, also expressed indignation in connection with this
fact, mentioning that such incidents in this sphere become
"appropriate". They said that they will not be silent and are
going to struggle against this decision. They gave assurance
that the new candidate to this post is gifted pianist Armine
Grigorian, but she is far from the museum activities. Levon
Chaushian thinks that Armine Grigorian may be appointed Deputy
Director, and when Gohar Harutiunian's term of contract expires,
the latter herself will retire.
