Russian Foreign Minister said on Thursday that the international community should not ignore the results of a referendum held this week in northern Kosovo.
According to preliminary results, 99.74 percent of those who turned out in the Serb-dominated north rejected the Kosovo Albanian institutions in Pri??tina.
"People have expressed their position, we must pay attention to that. This is a signal," Lavrov was quoted as saying.
The Russian foreign policy chief, who spoke during a news conference in Vienna, Austria, advised the international community and all participants in the search for a solution to the Kosovo question "not to ignore the results of the referendum".
Ignoring the results of the plebiscite "could prove to be a big mistake", concluded Lavrov.
