To celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of Frederic Chopin, one of the most outstanding composers who was a Pole, the Embassy of the Republic in Poland in Yerevan undertook its efforts to organize The Chopin Year in Armenia. The First Lady of Armenia Madame Rita Sargsyan gave her consent to take the celebrations under Her high patronage. The co-organizers of all events are: The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and The Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. The celebrations will start on 1 November 2010 at 19:00 with a concert of two famous Armenian piano soloists: Zemfira Barseghyan to perform Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise and Armen Babakhanyan to play Piano concerto No.l e-in minor accompanied by the Youth State Orchestra of Armenia, conducted by Ruben Asatryan. Between 4 and 9 November the Chopin Competition of Young Pianists of Armenia will take place. Announcement of the results of the competition may be expected on 9 November 2010 at 19:00. The concert of the laureates will be followed by the screening of the Polish film with Armenian subtitles " Chopin- Desire for Love", directed by Jerzy Antczak. On 11 November 2010 which is celebrated as the Independence Day in Poland, a gala concert is to close the Chopin Year in Armenia. An outstanding Polish pianist Slawomir Wilk will perform Piano concerto No.2 f-in minor, accompanied by the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra to be conducted by its Artistic director and Principal Conductor Eduard Topchyan.
