During one week from 14-22 of October 27 representatives from 9 European countries were exploring the topic of the European citizenship in Tsaghkadzor.
The young leaders and activists from Armenia, Croatia, Georgia, Italy, Moldova, Romania, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine were brought together in Tsaghkadzor because of a training course “European Citizenship for All”, which was organized in the framework of the Youth in Action Programme of the European Union.
Through non-formal education the training aimed to examine the concept of European Citizenship through the exploration of its values and identity, thus encouraging the citizens to become more actively involved in the process of European integration. The purpose of the training was also to strengthen the capacities of the youth NGOs to apply for and implement projects supported by the European Commission, as well as to increase their impact and participation in the social life of their countries.
During the week the participants have an opportunity to meet with the mayor of Tsaghkadzor city Artur Harutyunyan and ask him questions about the European values and integration of Armenia towards them, as well as about the expectations of Armenia from European Union.
As mentioned the participants, the trainig was very active and interesting. During a week they had an opportunity not only to discuss and examine the topic but also visited historical monuments of Armenia Garni, Geghard and learned about the Armenian culture.
“I liked the training course very much. In addition to the aquired new knowledge, discussions and practical activities I also made new friends and learned a lot about the culture, history and traditions of participating countries. I leave Aremnia very impressed.”, said Luis the participant from Spain.
“Besides the new skills and knowledge which I got during the training course I am also taking back with me an invaluable intercultural experience and the warm memories about this wonderful week in Armenia”, says Irakli, the participant from Georgia.
The training has been organized by the efforts of the local youth NGO “Youth for Exchange and Cooperation” and was funded by the European Commission in the framework of the European Union’s “Youth in Action” Programme. The aim of this Program is to inspire a sense of active European citizenship, solidarity and tolerance among young Europeans and to involve them in shaping the Union's future.
