Today more than 90 countries are celebrating Safe Internet Day. For the third time in a row on the occasion of this day Orange, together with the Safe Internet Committee of Armenia and Media Education Center NGO, has initiated the “Safe Internet Armenia” large-scale project.  The main emphasize of the program this year is child protection.

From February 11 more than 3000 pupils of 150 schools will participate in open lessons and receive relevant information and educational materials on how to use Internet safely. In the frame of the program special meetings with parents will be organized, during which issues and risks related to safe Internet use will be tackled and information on technical solutions, which make Internet safe for children will be provided. In the frames of “Safe Internet month” project, in Yerevan, Vanadzor and Ijevan towns 25 employees of Orange will participate in educational workshops organized for parents.

“Being a leading mobile operator on the market, we not only take responsibility towards our subscribers to render quality services, but as well to inform  children on how to use internet safely and provide relevant technical solutions to their parents.. Since 2012 Orange proposes to its customers to use Kaspersky Internet Security software, which includes improved protection for children from inappropriate online content. Up to the 11th of March, Orange will be informing widely about these software solutions, and make them more affordable  for our customers from the 1st of March», added General Director of Orange Armenia Francis Gelibter.

Studies show that those teenagers whose families do not define rules for internet use are twice more likely to enter sites with inappropriate content. All those concerned about the nature and safety of the content their children are exposed to on the Internet can visit www.safe.am, where necessary information and advice on safe internet use can be found in Armenian. Over 10,000 educational sites have been developed and a base containing 3000 links of safe educational sites has been created.

The “Safe Internet” project is dedicated to the International Safe Internet Day, celebrated since 2004 on the 2nd day of the 2nd week of the second 2nd month of each year. The pan-European INSAFE initiative, which is enlarging its borders year by year, is gathering people together to combat unlawful, harmful and irrelevant content.
