The opening ceremony of the 5th “New Names” International Festival took place in the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater after Alexander Spendiaryan in Yerevan. At the opening of the festival the young musicians performed with the State Chamber Orchestra of Armenia under the direction of Harutyun Arzumanyan.

The representative festival is hosting 40 talented young musicians under 18 from Armenia, Russia, USA, Germany, Japan, China, Australia, and Georgia. The participants of the festival are winners of national and international contests and festivals and are recipients of various scholarships.

“The name of the festival – “New Names” – speaks for itself: the vitality of any form of art is guaranteed by generational changes, by revealing, encouraging and supporting new names. Taking first steps in the world of classical music is challenging even for the most gifted young musicians. They need a platform where they can show their talent and the results of many years of hard work. This festival is one of those platforms, where young musicians from all over the world have an opportunity to perform on the big stage, communicate with each other, acquire experience and master the profession. VivaCell-MTS is glad to support to this exceptional initiative,” VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian noted.

The festival is organized upon the initiative of the “New Names” program in Armenia (coordinator, president of the Union of Workers of Culture, Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Silva Mekinyan). The 5th “New Names” festival will be held in Yerevan May 28 through May 31, 2015. This year the festival is dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

The festival will be held under the high patronage of the First Lady of RA Rita Sargsyan and with the support of the RA Ministry of Culture, the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia (artistic director and principal conductor Eduard Topchyan) and the State Chamber Orchestra of Armenia (artistic director and principal conductor Vahan Martirosyan).

The general partner of the festival is VivaCell-MTS.
