On Nowember 26-27, 2016 the capital of Turkmenistan Ashgabat will host the First Global Conference on the Sustainable Transport, convened by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon  and endorsed by the UN General Assembly. 
 
As part of the UN Global Conference the Document event will be held, i.e. signing of several international conventions and agreements, as well as the final documents is scheduled. The conference agenda will include a wide range of topical issues: sustainable transport and environmental change, energy and transport, urban transport system and road transport links between cities and villages, the investment in the transport sector and its financing, international cooperation in the transport sector and its legal basis, the development of multilateral transport corridors and their infrastructure, traffic safety, etc.
 
About 2000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the Global Conference, including the heads of many countries and international organizations.
 
The official Ashgabat is involved in several large-scale projects: Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railways, road and rail bridges over the Amu Darya river, airports, motorways, the Turkmenbashi international sea port are designed to be important components of the international network of transport communications in the region.
