On September 30, 2017, “Yeremyan Projects” organized a special tour for the media representatives to visit Avan community of Aragatsotn regional of the Republic of Armenia.

During the tour, media representatives were presented to one of the many initiatives within the scope of the corporate social responsibility concept of “Yeremyan Projects” this time launched in Avan community. The goal of the project is to support the economic development of this remote community, make it stronger and livelier as well as foster business-village cooperation.

The media representatives were introduced to the key principles of operation in the collection point, peculiarities of the agricultural products’ collection process, had a meeting with the head of the community, community members and farmers.

July 2017 marked the beginning of this initiative. The collection point of agricultural products has been established in Avan community of Aragatsotn Region (Marz) in July 2017. This is the place where community residents deliver their agricultural products at market price, including dairy products, meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, etc.. This project is the first of its kind in Armenia and is implemented in the framework of the Corporate Social Responsibility Concept of “Yeremyan Projects” thus establishing a platform for a mutually beneficial cooperation between the community resident-producer and a local business, facilitating the establishment of the social entrepreneurship and a new culture of responsible business. Within this short period of time, the project has achieved a remarkable result - trade turnover of 50 million AMD:  8000kg pork, 2000kg beef, 1 ton of honey, 2 tons of cheese etc. were collected and reserved.

During the media tour while discussing the goal, objectives and motives behind the idea of starting this initiative, Mr. Davit Yeremyan, the founder of Yeremyan Projects, mentioned:

“The goal of our initiative is two-fold: to support the community and community residents by relieving their financial burden, and grant them an opportunity to supply our consumers with fresh and nutritious products. Besides, there is no need to reach Yerevan or other nearby cities for selling the agricultural products. Every day our vehicle drives up to the collection point and transports agricultural products. Moreover, prior to delivering the products to our consumers, those are processed based on special technology used by our company.”

One of the achievements of the project identified by  Mr. Davit Yeremyan is also the fact that conditions were created in Avan community for community residents to be in a competitive labor market, and they have gradually developed a business thinking skill.

Within the frames of its social project, “Yeremyan Projects” also supports the villagers in obtaining necessary medicine and animal feed․

Currently Avan community has 860 residents and 220 farms. Its residents are mainly engaged in
cattle breeding (including small ruminants), orchards planting and crops productions. As a response to the journalists’ question on the main reason of selecting Avan community for the establishment of the collection point for agricultural products, Mr. Davit Yeremyan mentioned:

“I have quite interesting childhood memories linked to this village; Avan is my mother’s village. The residents of the village are hardworking, modest and honest people; I have learnt a lot from them. Besides, from agriculture development perspective Avan community has favorable conditions to consider”.

Mr. Davit Yeremyan also responded to other questions posed by the journalists, particularly eager to learn whether the founder of “Yeremyan Projects” will start collaborating with other communities.“ We have just started our work, we haven’t assessed the community capacities yet, the village has a great potential to develop. First, we should understand to what extent the village is able to meet the demand, afterwards we will think about cooperation with other communities” said Mr. Yeremyan.

Mr. Sasha Torosyan, the Head of Avan community expressed his gratitude to “Yeremyan Projects” for the significant investment in the economy of this small community:
“I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of the village for providing grounds for optimism and giving us an opportunity to live and create here thus staying in our village. The main means of livelihood for the community residents is the livestock and crops production. Today the residents are very excited that they have a job and a sustainable source of income. Given that their work is appreciated, the community started to multiply the number of livestock in order to provide more agricultural products and develop the village”.
It is already the third month, that the village resident Robert Harutyunyan delivers meat and dairy products to the collection point. He is satisfied both with the income and the collecting process. “Before this initiative the community residents usually had transportation cost and consumption related difficulties when transporting the agricultural products to the city by themselves,. It was more profitable for the resellers, rather than the community residents.. Now we have 20-30% benefit from our products”, said Mr. Robert Harutyunyan and in a hospitable manner common for the village resident invited the media representatives to see his orchards and tastes his fruits.
