Though 30 years have passed from the earthquake in 1988, in Gyumri there is still overwhelming psychological mood and more than 200 van – domiks which are spread over the city.
And until Gyumri isn’t totally free from this scene which reminds about the disaster all the time, there is no hope that the city will come out of the overwhelming psychological mood.
Some of the permanent shelters which we call domiks aren’t residential ( approximately 500 of them). Even people who have received flats haven’t destroyed them yet.
Our investigation have shown that the only way to free the city from permanent shelters: van – domiks, is to buy them from the owners and destroy them. And the wood which will come out from the process of destroying domiks may be collected and given to the families who still live in domiks. With the help of tis action we’ll save wood of the forests and do something useful for the families who live in domiks.
