On July 7 Ayb High School students of the Arvestanots club presented their project “A Piece of Yerevan” to discover very typical buildings of the capital by sketches․ Students have chosen buildings which are ignored or forgotten at all. The aim of the event jointly organized with Gouroo Club and Garden was to value and save urban buildings.

The students and guests talked about their sketches and the reasons for choosing those places, and why those buildings were so interesting for them.
The special guests of the event were: Mark Grigoryan, the executive director of Public Radio of Armenia, Arsen Karapetyan, architect, the founder of D’arvestanots architectural studio and Sarhat Petrosyan, architect, the Head of independent research organization UrbanLab.
"Maybe you don՛t agree with what I have to say, but there is no old Yerevan, it did not become and would never be an old city in the sense of Old Prague, Old Petersburg and Tallinn. Even if you think that it has , then it is Yerevan of the 1920s and '40s. And the question of preservation depends on the conditions in which the architecture has been formed," said Mark Grigoryan.
Sarhat Petrosyan, another participant of the discussion, objected to this idea, noting: "Even if we don’t even have to compare Yerevan with Prague and other cities, we have to keep what we have. So, we did not keep the part from the Republic square down to the Opera House building and now it's Northern Avenue. Yes, it is necessary to preserve as the preserved structures are adding value to the city. We could not keep the old values of our city. "
Touching upon the question of the necessity of preserving everything, the Public Radio Director Mark Grigoryan added: "The city should have a common architectural look, not structures in the form of separate islands. There is no general atmosphere of Yerevan in the same way, but there are different atmosphere where people feel comfortable. "
"There are some islanded parts of  Yerevan that have not been appreciated over time not because of lack of merit, but because they have been  underestimated just like the Kond, the Firdus market," said Arsen Karapetyan, another participant in the discussion.
At the end of the event, the screening of the animation film “A Piece of Yerevantsi” took place. The film is also based on the sketches made by students and tells us about the trip of “a piece of Yerevanian” walking in the streets of the city.
