YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 24, NOYAN TAPAN. Aghvan Hovsepian, the
RA Prosecutor General, and Rudolf Perina, the Charge d'Affaires
of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, signed the sixth Protocol on the
amendment to the Letter of Agreement on Narcotics Control and
Law Enforcement between the Government of the United States of
America and the Government of Armenia in Yerevan on September
24. Under this sixth amendment to the Letter of Agreement, the
U.S. Government will provide a financial assistance of
approximately 170 thousand U.S. dollars for the implementation
of two programs for the RA police: the construction of a firing
range and creation of a country-wide computer network. About 8
million dollars have been provided for the law enforcement
bodies of Armenia since the initial Agreement was signed on June
11, 2001. Here is the work done due to those means: the creation
of an independent expertise center under the RA National Academy
of Sciences and educational computer auditoriums in different
law enforcement bodies, technological modernization of frontier
posts, as well as many others.
Rudolf Perina informed journalists about the readiness of
his country to continue the cooperation with the law enforcement
bodies of Armenia. He attached importance to the bilateral
cooperation, as well as that of the law enforcement bodies in
the international arena, taking into consideration the increase
of international terrorism.
