CITY PARLIAMENT OF SAN PAULO ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON
RECOGNITION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

SAN PAULO, OCTOBER 21, NOYAN TAPAN. The city parliament of
San Paulo adopted resolution N MOC 0010/2005 on recognition
of the Armenian Genocide during its last plenary sitting. The
draft resolution was compiled bu Deputy Zhuselino Gadelya and
was submitted for discussion on April 14.
Mentioning that 1.5 mln Armenians fell victims of the
genocide committed by the Turkish government in 1915 and the
rest of them was banished from their historic homeland, taking
into consideration the fact that this crime was confirmed by
famous political and public figures, as well as in consideration
of the fact that such facts of crime against mankind contradict the
spirit of international co-existence and deserve the strictest
condemnation, the parliament expressed its solidarity with the
Armenian people and applied to the President of the Federal
Republic of Brazil with a request to take necessary steps
jointly with the National Congress for recognition of the
Armenian Genocide at the federal level.
According to the Press Service of RA Foreign Ministry, the
resolution was adopted unanimously, besides, 43 out of 51 MPs
signed under the document as co-authors.
On October 20, Robert Tripoli, Chairman of the city
parliament, gave the ratified copy of the resolution to Ashot
Yeghiazarian, RA Consul General to San Paulo.
