US GOVERNMENT DONATES 30 THOUSAND US DOLLARS TO ARMENIAN
NATIONAL CINEMATHEQUE

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 13, NOYAN TAPAN. The US Ambassador's
Fund for Cultural Preservation of the US Government donated 30
thousand US dollars fund to the Armenian National Cinematheque,
owing to what 4 archives of preserving Armenian films, video
materials and photos will be repaired and a climate-controlled
space will be provided at the Cinematheque.
As Garegin Zakoyan, the Vice-Director of the Cinematheque
mentioned at the September 13 press-conference, 13 thousand
documentary and 200 feature films, including the first Armenian
silent films as well as rare musical recordings and numerous
historically significant photos are preserved at the
Cinematheque. Whilemean, already for 20 years, corresponding
works haven't implemented in the direction of creating necessary
conditions for preserving films.
John Evans, the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the US to Armenia, informed that the fund
created in 2001 supports all the countries of the world in the
issue of securing museum collections, historical-cultural
monuments and values. The fund has supported about 300 programs
in different countries of the world, allocating 6.7 mln dollars.
