Moscow, Russia, June 7, 2012 -- Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in software and IP used in the design, verification and manufacture of electronic components and systems, and the National Research University of Electronic Technology (MIET), today announced that 18 additional master’s students have successfully completed the Synopsys and MIET joint educational program and are now ready to begin their professional engineering careers. Established in 2006, the program's goal is to educate Russian students in advanced microelectronics, so they may lead Russia into its next stage of technology development. The two-year master’s program is based on Synopsys Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and a customized curriculum for integrated circuit (IC) design. The program is offered by the Synopsys Armenia Educational Department (SAED) through the Synopsys University Program. To date, 92 students have successfully graduated from the Synopsys-MIET program. Using a proven educational model of cooperation between industry and academia, the program is able to provide Russia’s workforce with industry-ready graduates who have the knowledge and skills required to quickly become productive in the industry. Meeting the highest international engineering standards, all graduates are well-equipped to join the industry and are already employed by leading semiconductor companies. They work as leading specialists at Mikron, Angstrem, The Institute for Design Problems in Microelectronics of the Russian Academy of Science, NI ELVIS, and other semiconductor companies that contribute to Russia’s growing high-tech industry. The Synopsys and MIET joint educational program is based on a customized curriculum for IC design that is taught jointly by Synopsys professionals and MIET professors. The program admits 20 new students to the two-year program every year. All students at the Synopsys-MIET Educational Center have access to a comprehensive, industry-leading EDA university tools package from Synopsys. In addition, Synopsys provides educational resources such as Educational Design Kits (EDKs) and interoperable Process Design Kits (iPDKs) for 90-nanometer (nm) and 32/28-nm technologies, which enable state-of-the-art IC design in an educational environment. “Graduating the 5th class is a significant milestone and highlights the success of the Synopsys-MIET educational program,” said MIET Rector Yuri A. Chaplygin, an associate member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a Doctor of Engineering Science and a professor. “Our long-term partnership with Synopsys brings new opportunities for the university and its students. We appreciate the contribution made by Synopsys to training highly qualified engineers for the electronics industry in Russia.” “The designation of MIET as Russia’s National Research University of Electronic Technology is further proof of the quality of education that MIET provides,” said Rich Goldman, vice president of Corporate Marketing and Strategic Alliances at Synopsys and honorable professor of MIET. “Synopsys is proud to provide software and a curriculum that aids MIET in reaching such a high level, and we are enheartened to see our joint graduates already positively contributing to the renaissance of Russia’s semiconductor industry.” “I am happy for yet another successful graduation,” said Vazgen Melikyan, director of SAED, honorable scientist of the Republic of Armenia and honorable professor of MIET. “Taking into account the fast pace of development in this very technical field, we continue to advance the content of the educational program to deliver even more skilled and knowledgeable graduates in the years ahead.” “During the two-year program I gained valuable experience and practice in digital design flows, digital and analog integrated circuit design, design automation and much more,” said Piryutina Galina, a 2012 graduate of the Synopsys-MIET joint educational master’s program. Galina added, “The opportunity to use the most advanced EDA tools from Synopsys throughout many of the program’s courses was a great contribution to understanding theoretical knowledge and demonstrating practical skills essential to working in the industry.” About Synopsys Worldwide University Programs Synopsys Worldwide University Programs have been providing technology, tools and resources for teaching and academic research since 1986.
