The Orange Foundation and World Vision Armenia finilize the October and November results of the joint SMS charity project “Let’s Keep Children Home”

Today the Orange Foundation and World Vision Armenia announced the October and November results of the joint SMS charity project “Let’s Keep Children Home”. This project gives the chance to every Orange customer to support the Armenian children, whose families, due to financial difficulties, deliver them to the care of state institutions.

In October and November Orange customers have donated 175 300 AMD and 298 900 AMD respectively. As in case of the previous months, the Orange Foundation in its turn will double the money donated by the customers all together and transfer 350 600 AMD for October and 597 800 AMD for November to World Vision Armenia. The amount donated in October will be used by World Vision Armenia to help a family living in Yerevan. The family consists of a young mother and 4 children. Due to tough social conditions Anahit, the mother of these 4 children, has had to deliver her 15-year-old and 13-year-old sons to the care of a state institution. The donated amount will be used to buy necessary kitchen tools for making fast food at home, thus enabling Anahit to earn money and keep her children home.
The amount donated in November will be used by World Vision Armenia to help another family living in Goris town of Syunik region. Sasun, the father of the family has serious health problems, is suffering from tuberculosis, and Aida, the mother of the family, is the only one to earn this family’s living, she does not have a permanent job and is usually hired on a temporary basis to clean private houses. Due to tough social conditions Sasun and Aida as well have had to deliver their 15-year-old son to the care of a state institution. The donated amount will be provided to this family, in order to buy sheep, as well as forage to feed the sheep for the first period, thus enabling them to earn money and keep their son home.

“Since launch of this project over 5900 customers have made donations, and many of them have donated more than once. We thank all our customers, who have particiapted to this initiative. The Orange Foundation has doubled the money donated by each of them. We call on our customers to donate again 100 or 500 AMD, as thanks to the donations to be made in December one more child will return home,” said Francis Gelibter, Chairman of the Board of the Orange Foundation in Armenia.

“Thanks to the donations of Orange customers and the Orange Foundation, we were able to return 9 children to their families by creating a source of income for their parents. The aim of the project is to provide  sustainable development of a family, rather than simple money support, as thanks to small donations there is a possibility to create economic sustainability in families,” said Graham Strong, Director of World Vision Armenia.

Orange customers can help the families in need by sending SMS to 1234 and 5678 short numbers and donating 100 and 500 AMD correspondingly.

The SMS charity project “Let’s Keep Children Home” will last until June 2013 during which the Orange Foundation will regularly provide information on the donated money and the children and families who have been the beneficiaries of this project.

For privacy reasons last name of the beneficiary family members and first names of the children are not indicated.
