Armenia's president submits nomination for 2013 elections

YEREVAN, Armenia, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has submitted his documents to run for the 2013 presidential elections,the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) said Thursday.
 
Sargsyan was officially nominated by the ruling Republican Party as the party candidate on Dec. 15. He collected a 52.3 percent majority in the disputed 2008 elections, in which 10 people were killed in a bloody conflict between protestors and police.
 
Earlier Wednesday, three other candidates submitted their papers to the CEC as candidates for the Feb. 18 election. The deadline for nomination of candidates is Jan. 4.
 
Four other politicians, including former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan,have voiced their intention to run for president.
 
Meanwhile, three major opposition parties in the Armenian parliament, Prosperous Armenia, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Armenian National Congress coalition have said they will neither field a presidential candidate nor support any other contender.
