On the evening of August 30 “Bureaucrat” bookstore hosted the presentation of already published books of four literary works that have been recognized as winners of “Orange Book Prize 2012” book contest. They are as follows: the novel “Skinpain” by Hovhannes Tekgyozyan, the story “Hamo’s Favourite Flower” by Nare Sahakyan, the tale “Your Excellency Bad Old Witch” by Yerazik Grigoryan and the selection of poems “Magus Kings” by Shushanik Tamrazyan.

“With are happy and proud to present today the books that were created thanks to the contest, as well as thanks to the interest and involvement of the jury and readers. Orange Book Prize is a prize of readers and booklovers. During this period we did our best to boost through public readings the interest in reading. The contest also helped us to reveal new talents”, said Orange Armenia CEO Francis Gelibter.

The “Skinpain” among the books presented is a contemporary story. According to the author it’s an antinovel, which presents different parts of the same story from different aspects, from viewpoints of different heroes and with different perceptions of reality.

“Hamo’s Favorite Flower” is a story about a family, the members of which seldom talk to each other and human fates are in the thick of the heated atmosphere and conflict of interests of this family’s everyday life.

“Your Excellency Bad Old Witch” is a tale the main heroes of which are the characters, which are often met in the literary works dedicated to children, i.e., the old witch and crow. This tale, however, makes an attempt to view and understand these two characters from completely another viewpoint. It even attempts to go ahead of these two friends who are so inconsistent with their wickedness. Very often they are not even wicked, but prankish, sometimes naïve and always funny, as well as exciting all of a sudden. Their wickedness is not their strength, but rather weakness.

The selection of poems “Magus Kings” is the reflection of the words and emotions captured by the author at different times and places, which simply and freely, without contemplation of thought or content, have come together in one original rhythm.
As a reminder, the contest was open to those, who had presented literary works that had never been published in the past. For the first time this second edition was also open to the literary works written in Eastern or Western Armenian by the Armenian Diaspora representatives. Overall 470 works participated in the contest. The winner of each genre was published in a separate book, with 500 copies, and the author was awarded a monetary prize in the amount of 500,000 AMD.
The objective of the “Orange Book Prize 2012” book contest is to boost interest in reading, to discover the contemporary Armenian writers, to spread their works among larger group of readers through the daily evolving electronic media, support beginners and already famous writers and publish their unprinted works.
Already for the second time the Orange Book Prize is organized and implemented jointly with the “Armenian Book Center” NGO.
Orange Book Prize is an annual prize. The information on the start of the contest for 2013 will be communicated additionally. All details can be found at http://orangearmenia.am/book-prize/.
