From March 19 till 22 the Theatre Workers Union of Armenia, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia and the sponsorship of VivaCell-MTS will be holding the annual International Shakespeare Festival after Vahram Papazian.
 
Festival opens on March 19, at 19:00 at the Yerevan Youth Theatre with the premiere of Shakespeare’s “King Lear” of Armenian-Georgian joint production (stage director Hakob Ghazanchyan). 
 
The festival is devoted to Shakespeare’s 450th anniversary, and is attended by the directors of the participant organizations of the European Shakespeare Festivals Network (ESFN) including those from United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Denmark, and Spain, including President of the European Shakespeare Festivals Network (ESFN), Managing Director of the Gdansk Shakespeare Festival Jerzy Limon, Coordinator of the European Shakespeare Festivals Network Joanna Sniezko-Misterek, Director of the Globe to Globe at The Globe Festival, London, Tom Bird, Director of the Shakespeare im Globe Neuss Festival Rainer Wiertz (Germany), Director of the Shakespeare Festival Gyula Sandor Josef Gedeon (Hungary), Art Director of the Shakespeare Festival Craiova Emil Boroghina (Romania), Director of the Shakespeare Festival Craiova and the Marin Sorescu Theatre Mircea Cornisteanu, Director of the Summer Shakespeare Festival Ostrava Andrej Harmecko (Czech Republic), Director of the Bath Shakespeare International Festival Philip Parr (United Kingdom),  Art and General Executive Director of the Shakespeare Festival at Hamlet’s Castle Lars Romann Engels (Denmark).
 
On March 20, at 11:00 the Yeghishe Charents Museum of Art and Literature will host the “Shakespeare in the Armenian Theater” Exhibition, followed by the “Shakespeare on the Crossroads of the Modern Theater” International Research Conference.
 
The festival program includes “King John” (on the stage of the Gabriel Sundukian National Academic Theater, Yerevan), “King Lear” (on the stage of the Hovhannes Abelyan Dramatic Theater, Vanadzor), and “Julius Caesar” (on the stage of the Hrachya Ghaplanyan Dramatic Theater, Yerevan).
