An Evening Dedicated to the Memory of David Khanjyan in the framework of Khachaturian Festival

Concerts held in the framework of the 3rd Khachaturian International Festival are unique musical events dedicated to famous musicians. On 13th of October at the House of Chamber Music a concert in honor of the 75th anniversary of the famous conductor, Honored Art Worker of Armenian SSR, laureate of the State Prize - David Khanjyan was held.
During the evening performed cellists Suren Bagratuni (USA) and Hakob Atyan, pianists Svetlana Navasardyan and Zaruhi Khanjyan. Hakob Atyan is the grandson of David Khanjyan and Zaruhi Khanjian is the daughter of the conductor. The concert included works by Handel, Bach, Chopin, Mozart and other composers.
Pianist Svetlana Navasardyan appreciates the attitude of Festival organizers towards David Khanjyan: “David Khanjyan was an excellent musician: in a short period of time he was able to define an entire epoch, he was equally innovative in program developments, conceptual issues and organizational aspects. He was adherent of his sacred work, passionate conductor.
Unfortunately his life was interrupted too early, but it seems to me, he is with us, and today’s evening is a proof of that. I was one of the few soloists who had the good fortune to perform with him on a regular basis”- says Svetlana Navasardyan.
Zaruhi Khanjyan pointed out that her father would have been proud to see that his children continue his work and his ideas come to life. She completed her thought by adding that she was pleased to participate in this Festival with such a group.
Suren Bagratuni shared wonderful memories of visiting concert of Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Khanjyan in early adolescence. According to his words, the Festival organizers have made the right decision to keep the memory of the famous musicians and to promote their works.
It should be mentioned that the 3rd Khachaturian International Festival is held under the patronage of RA President Serzh Sargsyan. This musical celebration is realized by the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia (general partner VivaCell-MTS), with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture. The festival is sponsored by "Pyunik" Charitable Foundation, “Luding" Company, "Jermuk Group" and "Ani Plaza".
