Zohrab Tadevosyan and Sofya Melikyan: a new cooperation within Khachaturian Festival

On October 21, during the chamber music concert in the framework of 3rd Khachaturian International Festival, two famous musicians performed: pianist Sofya Melikyan (USA) and violinist Zohrab Tadevosyan (Armenia / Spain), who live and work abroad, presenting performing art achievements to the entire world. 
Chamber concert included works by Franz Schubert (Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major, Fantasy for violin and piano C major), Richard Strauss (Sonata for Violin and Piano in E flat major).  
 
Sofya Melikyan and Zohrab Tadevosyan have long been familiar; they both studied in Spain but are cooperating for the first time. 
Zohrab noted that while selecting the performing program with Sofya, they have decided to include creations that are presented in Armenia not so often. The violinist said that his life is guided by a creative principle to perform works which are not frequently chosen. "I always try to bring new works to the audience so that people could recognize a wider number of musical creations and to enlarge their musical world perception". 
Zohrab Tadevosyan last performed in Armenia 14 years ago. He mentioned that today he is very grateful to Sergey Smbatyan, who offered him to perform in Khachaturian Festival as well as he is surprised at the highest level the Festival is organized in today's difficult conditions. 
Zohrab Tadevosyan successfully combines a career of soloist and chamber musician. Since 2003 he is a member of Madrid's Royal Opera Orchestra. Most of his time Zohrab Tadevosyan provides to pedagogy: Tadevosyan is regularly invited to major festivals and master classes. Since 2010 Tadevosyan is an associate professor at the Queen Sophia Higher School of Music, in collaboration with world-renowned violinist and teacher, Professor Ana Chumachenko. In addition, since 2013 he is a professor at Katarina Gurska Higher School of Music Education. 
Pianist Sofya Melikyan lives in New York. She studied at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid, Ecole Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot Conservatory in Paris and Midtown Manhattan School of Music. She is a winner of many international competitions. Sofya has traveled to Europe, USA, Canada, China, Japan and Australia.
Sofya Melikyan highly appreciated Khachaturian Festival. The pianist said that by seeing the festival program, soloists and guests, one can easily be surprised. She also mentioned that the repertoire was totally new for her and the participation in the Festival and cooperation with Zohrab Tadevosyan was a great opportunity to expand her repertoire. 
The 3rd Khachaturian International Festival is held under the patronage of RA President Serzh Sargsyan. This musical celebration is realized by the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia (general partner VivaCell-MTS), with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture. The festival is sponsored by "Pyunik" Charitable Foundation, “Luding" Company, "Jermuk Group" and "Ani Plaza".
