On October 26 the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia and Italian pianist Gloria Campaner presented Piano Concerto No.2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff within the framework of the 5th Khachaturian International Festival. This composition was written on the threshold of the 20th century, in 1900, and was first performed by the author in Moscow on October 27, 1901. The Piano Concerto No.2 is considered as the beginning of the new stage in Rachmaninoff 's creative life. The concerto is one of the most famous compositions and is part of the world's leading pianist’s repertoire. It was performed and recorded by the author, later by Vladimir Horowitz, Sviatoslav Richter, Arthur Rubinstein, Denis Matsuev, Boris Berezovsky and others. The Armenian audience had a chance to enjoy the composition, which was comprised of three movements. One of the most interesting young pianists of the Italian new generation Gloria Campaner performed it for the audience.
The pianist noted that this concerto was the first composition she performed when she was young. She has dreamed of presenting it since childhood, and the dream came true when she was 15. This is not the first cooperation between the pianist and the SYOA.
“We performed with the Youth Orchestra during Al Bustan festival in Beirut. I have played with my friends. They are amazing musicians, full of positive energy, with the desire to share positive vibes with the audience. It's good to work with professional musicians from whom you can learn something”,-Gloria Campaner noted. She added that she had known about the Khachaturian Festival before arriving here, as many of her friends performed within the framework of the festival.
Since her debut on stage Gloria has been the first-prize recipient in more than twenty national and international piano competitions. She is one of the most versatile musicians whose interests range from chamber music to tango, from ballet to jazz.
The Russian leitmotif continued during the second part of the concert. The State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, headed by Sergey Smbatyan, presented the ballet version of the Firebird by Igor Stravinsky. The organizers found the notes of the ballet version of the composition with great difficulty.
The Khachaturian Festival will present the audience other interesting concert programs with the participation of high-class soloists. You can find more information about the festival on our official website https://www.khachaturianfestival.com/ .
