Tatev to Host "We and Our Mountains" Sheep Shearing and Crafts Festival

“We and Our Mountains” Arts and Crafts Festival will take place on the 10th of July, near the Halidzor station of the Wings of Tatev Aerial Tramway. The festival is implemented by the Tatev Revival Foundation in cooperation with the Tourism and Urbanism Foundation (TUF). 
The festival will host the popular and favorite experience of sheep shearing, which includes the Wool to Carpet master class. The latter is being held for the fifth time in the region.
 
The aim of “We and Our Mountains” Arts and Crafts Festival is to make the traditions, culture and crafts of Syunik and Vayots Dzor more recognizable, to present the local produce of the regions, as well as to promote the development of tourism.
Everyone interested can participate in the festival. Several different components will comprise the festival: 15 masters from Syunik and Vayots Dzor will perform open arts and crafts master classes (ceramics, carpet weaving, genealogical tree creation, puppet making, willow weaving, preparation of beeswax ointments, and painting), the locals of the 7 villages of Tatev enlarged community will present an assortment of national dishes. Interesting tours to old historical villages will be organized as well. 
 
“The festival will enable the residents of Tatev enlarged community to present their local produce, touristic services and attractive touristic products, as well as handicrafts, culture and local crafts. We give great importance to holding this kind of festivals in Armenia, in this community in particular, to overcome the challenges following the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Artsakh, to revive tourism and tourism infrastructures,” says Yelena Abovyan, the CEO of the Tourism and Urbanism Foundation.
 
The participants, the guests of the festival and the tourists will have the chance to taste the delicious dishes of the local cuisine, take part in contests and tours, purchase beautiful souvenirs and enjoy the concert of Lav Eli band among the enchanting nature of Tatev. This is also a nice opportunity to ride the Wings of Tatev Aerial Tramway, enjoy the picturesque view of Vorotan gorge and visit the ninth-century monastery complex of Tatev, one of the most famous spiritual, cultural and enlightenment centers of medieval Armenia.
 
After the closing of the festival, the visitors and guests can participate in Vardavar celebrations in Tatev, on July 11.
State support for the festival will be provided by the Tourism Committee of the RA Ministry of Economy.
Craftsmen from Syunik and Vayots Dzor will participate in the festival through the My Armenia program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Smithsonian Institution.
