YEREVAN, OCTOBER 13, NOYAN TAPAN. Though writer and translator Vahe Godel was born and lives in Switzerland, he has served invaluable service to the Armenia literature: for more than 50 years V.Godel has presented in France, Belgium and Switzerland pearls of the Armenian literature and, owing to his translations, the Armenian poetry, starting from Goghtan songs (songs of the region of Goghtan) till our days, "reached to the European reader." Chairman of the Writers' Union of Armenia Levon Ananian presented in this way the Swiss writer's activity at the jubilee party dedicated to V.Godel's 75th anniversary which took place at the WUA on October 12. "Only the poet's mother was an Armenian and the father was a Swiss. But they speak at home in the Armenian language. That's why Godel has an Armenian's way of thinking," literary critic and translator Alexander Topchian mentioned. The literary critic has been engaged in study of V.Godel's works long years as well as presented the poet's poems to the Armenian reader in translation. In Al.Topchian's words, Godel is not only a wonderful translator but also a talented poet, and it is not accidental that he is considered one of the best writers of Europe.
