YEREVAN, MARCH 13, NOYAN TAPAN. During the March 13
meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and Iranian
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki expressed satisfaction at
economic cooperation between the two countries, pointing out the
positive results of mutually beneficial cooperation in energy,
transport, road construction and other spheres. The sides said
that this success provides an inspiring example for development
and implementation of new progams and projects, many of which
are on the agenda of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental
commission. These programs are envisaged to be discussed during
the visit that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will pay to
Iran at the invitation of Iranian President.
Speaking about the long-term projects, T. Sargsyan and M.
Mottaki attached special importance to construction of the
Iran-Armenia railway, joint hydropower plants on the Arax River,
and a liquid fuel terminal in the territory of Armenia. In the
words of Armenian prime minister, the Iran-Armenia railway will
be of great importance not only to Armenia and Iran, but also
the whole region.
According to a press release of the RA Government
Information and PR Department, the interlocutors underlined the
necessity of encouraging trade and commodity turnover between
two countries, noting that their volumes are still far from
being satisfactory.
As regards the situation as a result of the global
financial and economic crisis, the sides expressed confidence
that strengthening the relations with neighboring countries
and making joint mutually beneficial efforts will help reduce
the negative impact of the crisis and overcome the difficulties.
