MUNICIPALITY OF YEREVAN TO SIGN AGREEMENT OF MUTUAL
COOPERATION WITH SOFIA, SHIRAZ AND ASTANA IN 2008

YEREVAN, JUNE 9, NOYAN TAPAN. The representatives of the
municipality of Yerevan have taken part in a number of
conferences for the past two months. In particular, the
delegation of the municipality took part in the international
conference organized in Moscow by the Assembly of Big Capitals
in April. A number of issues connected with the governing system
of environmental protection and traffic in big cities were
discussed at the conference.
As David Gevorgian, the Head of the Foreign Relations
Department of the municipality of Yerevan, stated at the press
conference, which was held on June 9, they have also taken part
in the conference dedicated to the cultural policy of cities,
which was organized in Bucharest in May, as well as in the
conference dedicated to the economic sphere held in Moscow. Soon
the delegation of the municipality will leave for Astana to take
part in the regular summit to be organized by the Assembly of
Big Capitals.
At the same time it was mentioned that an agreement will be
concluded between Yerevan and a number of cities, in particular,
Sofia, Shiraz (Iran), and Astana (Kazakhstan) and a bilateral
cooperation will be established with those cities. D. Gevorgian
stated that an Armenian Khachkar (commemorative crossstone) will
be moved to Sofia from Yerevan soon within the framework of that
cooperation, which will be placed in the Yerevan park of the
capital of Bulgaria and the first stage of the reconstruction
and improvement work of the Lion garden will start in Yerevan in
the coming months.
