ARTASHAT PUPPET THEATRE TURNS TWO

ARTASHAT, MAY 18, NOYAN TAPAN. The "Children's Planet" puppet-theatre of Aratshat turns two. During this short time, the theatre has given 200 performances to children of not only Ararat marz but also Syunik and Vayots Dzor marzes. In choosing the repertoire, the artcistic director of the theatre Kajik Avetisian, actresses Lusine Grigorian, Aida Alexanian and Seda Babayan give preference to children's works of Armenian writers, not forgetting plays of foreign authors as well. Such plays as "The End of the Evil", "The Gold Pitcher", "The King and the Peddlar", "The Death of Kikos", "The Greedy Man", "Three Piglets", "The Red Riding Hood" and other Armenian fairy tales have received warm reception of many children. The Artashat puppet theatre has established close contacts with Yerevan State Puppet Theatre after H. Tumanian, "Agulis" Theatre headed by Ervand Manarian and the Theatre of Puppets. It received awards of the All-Armenian Festival of Puppet-makers and won praises of acknowledged experts. "The Gold Fish", "The Snake Woman" and a slighly changed version of the fairy tale "The Barve Nazar" - "The Cowardly Nazar" will be staged soon. The theatre has plans to show its plays in neighboring marzes, as well in Artsakh and Javakhk.
