YEREVAN, OCTOBER 14, NOYAN TAPAN. About 50 renal
transplantation surgeries have been performed at Arabkir Medical
Complex since 1991. Spartak Ghazarian, Director of the Complex,
told NT correspondent that at present they can perform up to 30
transplantations annually. The complex is the only medical
establishment to provide diagnosis and full treatment of kidney
diseases in the country.
Kidney transplantation surgeries have been partly performed
within the framework of state order since 2004. According to the
complex director, the cost of a transplantation operation and
treatment makes 15 thousand USD, this sum being equally shared
by the state, patient and the Arabkir Benevolent Fund. 4
patients were transplanted kidneys last year.
S. Ghazarian noted that despite the fact it costs much less
to undergo a kidney transplantation surgery in Armenia (for
example, it costs 30-35 thousand USD in Saint Petersburg),
Armenian citizens prefer to have such operations abroad. Yet, in
the words of S. Ghazarian, the results of the renal
transplantations at Arabkir Complex are not inferior to those in
the developed European countries.
