YEREVAN, JUNE 20, NOYAN TAPAN. A regional seminar under the
title "Cinema as Means of Inter-cultural Dialogue" will be held
on the days of the "Voske Tsiran" (Golden Apricot") second
international film festival to be held on July 12-17 in Yerevan.
The seminar will be aimed at restoration of cultural contacts of
the peoples of the region.
Susanna Haroutiunian, Chairwoman of the Association of Film
Journalists and Film Critics of Armenia, mentioned in her
interview to Noyan Tapan's correspondent that today 90% of
public in Armenia has vague idea about cinematographic activity
in neighbor countries and about processes taking place in their
cultural life in general. This situation not only leads to
cultural isolation, but also has undesirable political-public
consequences. "Pre-condition for understanding a neighbor is
being acquainted with him. In this respect cinema has endless
possibilities for understanding and sympathizing with people of
other nation, other religion, other way of life," S.Haroutiunian
emphasized.
Cultural and cinematographic figures, journalists from
Iran, Afghanistan, Georgia, Kazakhtsan, Russia, Turkey and other
countries will participate in the seminar.
