YEREVAN, November 1 (Noyan Tapan). Armenian chess-players successfully performed in the 36th World Chess Olympiad held in the Sapnish city of Calvia in Majorca Island. Beating the Georgian team with a score of 3.5-0.5 in last D 14, the Armenian national male team earned 36.5 out of possible 56 points. The Russian team also showed the same standing. But the latter had additional indices, that's why it was recognized the second, and Armenian chess-players placed third and won bronze medals. It is their third similar success: the Armenian national male team became the medal holder in the 1992 and 2002 Olympiads. The Ukrainian team, earning 39.5 points, became the champion of the 36th Olympiad. In D 14 the Armenian national female team beat the Azerbaijani team with a score of 2:1, earned 24.5 points and shared 9-12th places. Armenian female chess-players are 11th with their tournament coefficients. The Chinese national team became the champion of the Olympiad in women's contention, it earned 31 points out of possible 42. The teams of the United States (28 points) and Russia (27.5 points), respectively, won silver and bronze medals.
