SAFETY ISSUES TO BE HELD IN YEREVAN ON NOVEMBER 12-14

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 28, NOYAN TAPAN. It is envisaged holding an international consultation on exchange of experience in design, construction and operation of tailing pits and their safety issues in Yerevan on November 12-14, the RA minister of environmental protection Aram Harutyunian announced at the September 28 press conference. He said that for the purpose of ecologically safe management of dangerous chemical substances and wastes, registration of 870 Armenian organizations' production and consumption wastes and their classification by degree of danger has been done. Besides, the national program on pure technologies was developed in cooperation with the UN Industrial Development Organization and is now being implemented in Armenia. According to A. Harutyunian, the ministry's department for protection of the Earth's interior in June held an auction on forming the ore right over the Earth's interior sites containing minerals of strategic importance, as a result of which 110 million drams (about 323 thousand USD) was transferred to the state budget. 12 special licences for exploration and 7 expoloration licences have been granted, with 950 thousand drams being transferred to the state budget.
