LEVON GULIAN HAD RELATION TO INCIDENT WHICH LEAD TO A
MURDER AND HE CONCEALED IDENTITIES OF PERSONS WHO COMMITTED THIS
MURDER, POLICE STATES

YEREVAN, MAY 22, NOYAN TAPAN. Considering that the
circumstances of Levon Gulian's death are being speculated in
the mass media and public, with "some policemen being qualified
as incompetent, and the police in general being discredited",
the RA Police PR and Information Department on May 22 issued a
press release, presenting the results of the official
investigation conducted on the instructions of the RA police
chief.
According to it, at about 8:40 pm on May 9 Stepan Vardanian
was shot during a quarrel and scuffle between several men at the
Pandok Restaurant located on the first floor of house No 17 in
Manandian Street (Yerevan). According to the press release, it
has been substantiated that shots were heard at the time when L.
Gulian came out at the sound of voces during the quarrel near
the door of the restaurant and approached the arguing men. It is
indicated that the body of S. Vardanian was found 1.5 meters
away from the Pandok's door, while the battery of l. Gulian's
cell phone was discovered near the body. "So, - the police press
release notes, - there was more than enough proof that he had a
relation to the incident which led to the murder."
During the investigation, "first deputy head of the RA
Police Criminal Investigation Main Department H. Tamamian talked
with L. Gulian at the Shengavit police unit on May 10". Then L.
Gulian was questioned in the prosecutor's office of the
Shengavit comunity. According to the press release, "during the
questionings, L. Gulain concealed some important circumsatnces
related to the case, as well as the identities of the persons
who committed the murder."
After talking with L. Gulian for about 30 minutes in his
office on May 12, the head of the first unit of the 2nd
department of the RA Police Criminal Investigation Main
Department (CIMD) went out of the room to tell the heads of CIMD
about the results, after which L. Gulian asked an employee to
bring him a glass of water and taking advantage of his absence,
L. Gulian tried to escape through the window and fell down at
about 3:20 pm. Before the ambulance arrival, policemen tried to
help L. Gulian but the man died because of the injuries
received.
By the preliminary results of the investigation, Police
Colonel H. Tamamian had no contacts with L. Gulian after May 10.
The investigation into the criminal case opened by the
Yerevan prosecutor's office in connection with the death of
Levon Gulian and the official investigation conducted on the
instructions of the RA Police chief are now in process. An
investigation into the criminal case opened in connection with
Stepan Vardanian's murder is also being conducted.
