Moscow/Bonn Jan 19 (DPA-NT) - German Foreign Minister Klaus
Kinkel will travel to Moscow for a one-day visit on January 27
to discuss with his Russian counterpart Yevgeny Primakov the
Chechenia crisis, the German embassy announced in Moscow
Thursday. The meeting was arranged during a telephone
conversation between German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Russian
President Boris Yeltsin during which Yeltsin briefed the
chancellor on the military action against the Chechen rebels.
The Bonn Foreign Office said Primakov also in a telephone
conversation with Kinkel emphasized the continuity of Russian
foreign policy. Primakov said there would be no change in the
democratisation process and with the economic reform plans.
The German Foreign Office said Kinkel expressed during the
telephone conversation his "deep concern" at the heightening of
tension in Chechenia and called for a political solution.
