Jan 11 (DPA -NT) - Two Turkish offices in Cologne and
Bochum were damaged in attacks during the night, police said
Thursday. Unknown attackers threw a paving stone through the
window of a Turkish cultural organisation and followed that with
a Molotov cocktail which set the premises alight. In the Ruhr
city of Bochum, a Turkish business was set on fire.
A message several pages long handwritten in Turkish which
was found at the scene in Cologne indicated that extreme
left-wing Turkish circles were responsible, a police spokeswoman
said. No on was injured in the attacks.
The fire-bomb tactic has been adopted by other left-wing
Turk groups, who have stepped up their attacks since the
beginning of the year. A flag of the Turkish Dev-Sol underground
movement, which is banned in Germany, was found near a bank
which was attacked on January 5. The attacks this year are
thought to have been in protest at conditions for political
prisoners in Turkish prisons.
A total of 29 prison officers were for a time held hostage
when prisoners in Turkish jails revolted last week. The revolt
ended on Tuesday.
