CHEESE PLANT OPENS ON NOVEMBER 11 IN TAVUSH MARZ ON
INITIATIVE OF HEIFER INTERNATIONAL

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 14, NOYAN TAPAN. A cheese plant opened
near the village of Kirants (Tavush marz) on November 11 on the
initiative of Heifer International (France). It has the capacity
of processing 30 tons of milk a month and producing 180 kg of
cheese a day. This modern plant will produce goat cheese,
butter, curd, sour milk and yoghurt.
According to a press release submitted to NT, since 1944,
Heifer has provided help to 7 million families in more than 125
countries and 38 states of the US. Since 1999, Heifer has
implemented over 34 programs in the South Caucasus, assisting
more than 2 thousand families in Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan
to establish their own farms.
In November 2005, Heifer France transported 186 Alpine
goats into Armenia. The purpose of the program is to improve the
socioeconomic conditions of the population of 6 border villages
of Ijevan region. Next year these goats will be transferred to
the nearby villages of Noyemberian and other communities of
Tavush marz.
