DID GREAT WORK IN RESPECT OF FULFILMENT OF COMMITMENTS

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 11, NOYAN TAPAN. RA National Assembly
Speaker Tigran Torosian informed Guy De Vel, Director General
for Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe, about changes made
in the legislative sphere after the referendum on constitutional
amendments at the October 11 meeting with the latter.
As Noyan Tapan was informed from RA NA Public Relations
Department, the interlocutors spoke about liquidation of
administrative arrest done at the constitutional level,
amendment to the law "On the Constitutional Court" and extension
of the circle of people applying to CC, as well as about laws
relating to the judicial system.
At the same time, it was mentioned that the National
Assembly can work more efficiently until late 2006 as the
spring session of 2007 already coincides with the preelection
agitation period.
Guy De Vel, Director General for Legal Affairs of the
Council of Europe, said that Armenia has indeed done great
work in the respect of fulfilment of its commitments, important
laws have been adopted in the sense of Armenia's democratic
development. They have been already submitted for expert
conclusion.
Both sides attached importance to reforms in the judicial
system and adoption of a judicial code, which will be the
pivotal document in the reforms in the judicial system.
RA NA Speaker Tigran Torosian attached importance to
adoption of the Electoral Code by the end of the year, in
first and second readings.
Tigran Torosian also assured that the bill "On Television
and Radio" is also within the framework of constitutional
amendments. In his words, the parliament will try to adopt this
bill by the end of the year.
