CUSTOMS COMMITTEE EMPLOYEES DISCOVER 7 TONS OF SMUGGLED
FOODSTUFFS

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 13, NOYAN TAPAN. Employees of the State
Customs Committee (SCC) adjunct to the RA Government recently
discovered 7 tons of smuggled foodstuffs, mainly fish products,
fruits and sweets. According to the SCC press service, during
the examination of the luggage of Tbilisi-Yerevan train
passenger Artak Mnatskanian, an Armenian citizen, at the Yerevan
railway station, employees of the SCC Department for Fight
against Smuggling found 150 kg (5 bags) of lemon that were not
customs cleared.
100 kg of not customs cleared frozen scomber fish was
discovered in the luggage of Armenian citizen Ashot Saloyan at
the same railway station. Investigation in the above mentioned
cases is underway.
400 kg of chocolate candies and 50 kg of baby food imported
from Georgia without being customs cleared were found in GAZ-24
car of Armenian citizen Suren Hovhannisian from the village of
Maisyan (Shirak marz). According to him, an acquaintance of his
offered him to transport the food to the town of Ashots (Shirak
marz) at a reasonable price, without customs clearing. According
to the experts, some of the candies were not fresh and for that
reason not firt for price estimation, while the market value of
the remaining part of candies and baby food was assessed at
about 1 mln drams. S. Hovhannisian was subjected to
administrative liability.
