WORKS OF PREVENTING "BIRD FLU" IN ARMENIA UNDER SERIOUS
CONTROL

YEREVAN, JANUARY 9, NOYAN TAPAN. The RA State Veterinary
Medical Department keeps under serious control works of
preventing "bird flu" in the country. As Grisha Baghiyan, the
Chief of the Department informed the Noyan Tapan correspondent,
it's instructed to organize examination at the republican
veterinary medical laboratory in the case of finding out fall or
any symptoms of poultries as well as of wild birds. According to
him, an agreement was reached with border defence services of
Armenia that the Department is informed about cases of wild
birds' entering the territory of Armenia from the Turkish side
by the Araks river as well as about cases of their fall or
diseases in the river and on neighboring territories.
According to G.Baghiyan, there are no poultry raising farms
in those regions of Armenia which are bordering to 5 regions of
Turkey having hotbeds of the "bird flu." Farmers of that region
of Armenia were advised to limit movement of poultry to prevent
contact with wild birds. The Department Chief reminded that
poultry raising farms have passed to close regime still early in
October 2005, when cases of the "bird flu" were fixed in Turkey,
Iran, Russia, Romania and Ukraine. In the case of a poultry
raising farm's working with a close regime, unauthorized persons
are not admitted, birds may not leave the farm, periodical
disinfections are held in farms.
G.Baghiyan mentioned that import to Armenia of bird's meat
and food prepared of meat from those countries where cases of
"bird flu" were fixed is prohibited. According to him, all cars
entering Armenia are also disinfected on the border points on
preventing puproses.
The Department Chief also informed that works of
vaccinating against "bird plague" are started in Armenia. Those
are first of all held in regions bordering Turkey.
