DRAWING OF MARIAM MARUKHANIAN FROM ARMENIA AS WELL
RECOGNIZED AS WINNER DURING INTERNATIONAL DRAWING COMPETITION
FOR CHILDREN

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 30, NOYAN TAPAN. About 475 children from
Armenia took part in the International Drawing Compettition for
Children declared in spring of 2007 by the United Nations
Department of Economic and Social Affairs, of Public Information
and the UN Postal Administration. The aim of the competition was
to choose 6 drawings with the "We can put an end to poverty"
subject for designing the stamp of the United Nations. The
work of the 13 year-old Mariam Sarukhanian from Armenia is
among the drawings recognized as winners. In addition to this,
the works of two Armenian children were awarded diplomas of
Talented Children the one and of Memorability the other one, and
six more children with Participant latters of congratulation.
That competition in Armenia was organized by the Office of
the United Nations Department of Public Information in Yerevan
and the United Nations Armenian Association. As Karen Asatrian,
the Chairman of the Association, mentioned during the event
organized in the UN Office in Armenia on November 29, more than
12 thousand children from the whole world took part in the
drawing competition. The drawings were exhibited in New York
during the celebration of the International Day for the
Eradication of Poverty on October 17. It was also mentioned that
the highest participation was shown by Norway, the United States
of America, Portugal, Holland, Armenia, India, and Indonesia.
