77 NEW BUSES START RUNNING IN 7 ROUTES IN YEREVAN: NUMBER
OF 3500 MINIBUSES TO REDUCE 2000 IN CITY IN 3 YEARS

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 27, NOYAN TAPAN. Running of 77 "Bogdan"
buses brought by the Yerevan Mayor's Office started in 7 new
routes on November 24. The preliminary fare is fixed 100 drams.
Yervand Zakharian, the Yerevan Mayor mentioned at the November
24 interview to journalists that no change of prices is
envisaged yet. It was also mentioned that each of the buses
costs 30 thousand U.S. dollars.
In the Mayor's words, after running of the buses, the
number of minibuses going through the central part of the
capital will reduce by about 300 ones. Other 20 buses and 20
trolley-buses will also be brought in the next year. Y.Zakharian
mentioned that during the coming 3 years the public transport
park of the capital will be added with other 500-600 buses and
the number of about 3500 minibuses being operated in the capital
will reduce by about 2000. In his words, today the number of
buses with middle capacity is about 199.
In Y.Zakharian's words, for that purpose, a new system of
transport and traffic will be founded in 2007 as well as an
automatic government system of traffic lights will also be
introduced.
