YEREVAN, OCTOBER 30, NOYAN TAPAN. A monument dedicated to
memory of the Armenian Genocide and Jewish Holocaust victims
opened in Yerevan on October 27. As many of those present
mentioned at the monument opening, unpunishment and not being
condemned of the Armenian Genocide committed in Ottaman Turkey
became a reason for the Jewish Holocaust.
"The mankind is always in danger. International structures
are founded, attempts of international condemnation are made,
but genocides are continued," Hranush Kharatian, the Chief of
the National Minorities and Religious Issues of the RA
Government's staff said. In her words, only by remembering,
marking, respecting and condemning the Genocide, we have no
considerable contribution in its prevention, and one must
certainly struggle by acting to reach positive results.
To recap, members of the Jewish community of Armenian
public, political figures of Armenia and others assisted
creation of the monument dedicated to the memory of the Armenian
Genocide and Jewish Holocaust victims. The author of the
monument is sculptor Hrant Haroutiunian.
As Rima Varzhapetian, the head of the Jewish community of
Armenia mentioned, building of the monument just in the center
of Yerevan, in the crossroads of the Terian and Moskovian
streets has a goal to remind the by-passers, especially to youth
about the necessity of condemning genocides and preveting them.
