KAPAN, SEPTEMBER 28, NOYAN TAPAN. There was a new landslide
in the area adjacent to the Kapan city hospital on September 24,
as a result of which the garden and horticultural booth of local
resident Rafik Poghosian were burried under a 1,000-1,200 square
meter-layer of earth. Vilen Badalian, head of the urban
development department of Kapan mayor's office, told NT
correspondent that the new landlside does not pose a danger yet.
However, it may increase in size and have some unpredictable
consequences.
According to experts' explanation, the cause of the new
landslide is that as a result of irrigation of land plots
belonging to the local horticultural society, water has eroded
the soil layer, forming a landslide-prone zone. The community
budget lacks resources, so Mayor of Kapan Armen Karapetian
applied to the Armenian government with a request to provide
financial assistance for preventive measures.
