YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 26, NOYAN TAPAN. A seminar on the theme
"Introduction of Self-Regulation Mechanisms in Armenian Mass
Media" was held in Yerevan on September 23-24. Representatives
of mass media, Armenian public and international organizations,
foreign experts participated in the seminar.
Organizers of the seminar were the OSCE Yerevan Office,
Yerevan Press Club and the Public Television and Radio Company
of Armenia, in cooperation with the UNESCO Moscow Office.
Reports on the theme "Is being accoutable compesated?",
"First steps in Armenia: How effective are they?" and "Process
of introducing systems of responsibility of press in Armenia in
the context of international approaches" were presented on the
first working day of the seminar. They were presented by
Guardian (Great Britain) newspaper editor Ian Mayes, Aravot
newspaper editor-in-chief Aram Abrahamian and Yerevan Press Club
Chairman Boris Navasardian. The latter, particularly, mentioned
that "the most important precondition for introducing systems of
media responsibility is being free."
