ARMENIA IS FOR EXCLUSIVELY PEACEFUL USE OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia is loyal to its
commissions and is for exclusively peaceful use of nuclear
energy. Head of the Armenian delegation, RA Deputy Foreign
Minister Arman Kirakosian declared this at the 50th jubilee
conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held
the other day in Vienna. He said that RA government seriously
discusses the prospect of retaining its membership to the world
international community and parallelly with closing the Metsamor
Nuclear Power Plant studies the possibility of building a new
nuclear power plant. In his speech A.Kirakosian expressed
gratitude to IAEA and all countries with which Armenia has been
efficiently cooperating since relaunching the Metsamor Nuclear
Power Plant in 1995.
According to the report submitted to Noyan Tapan from RA
Foreign Ministry Press and Information Department, IAEA's future
programs aimed at promoting secure use of nuclear energy and
non-proliferation of nuclear weapons were discussed during the
conference. Armenia actively cooperates with U.S. and a number
of countries in the sphere of nuclear energy.
