YSU RECTOR EXPECTS ASSISTANCE OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS'
STRUCTURES IN ANTI-CORRUPTION STRUGGLE

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 12, NOYAN TAPAN. The September 11
press-conference was dedicated to summing up of the 100-day
activity of Yerevan State University newly elected Rector Aram
Simonian's officiating.
Just at the beginning the Rector stated that he would work
openly and transparently, on the occasion of what departments
and the staff of the University Public Relations Department
widened.
Aram Simonian stated that during his officiating, structure
changes were made in the university, pro-rectors were aslo
changed. He did not hide that like any new head, he as well
comes with his team to work more effectively.
The Rector emphasized that this personnel changes were made
on the account of inner displacing, thus, from one department to
another, and no vacancies were added. Besides, in his words, the
number of technical and service departments was also greatly
reduced.
Aram Simonian stated that the YSU culture center will open
soon, the university theatrical company and choir will re-start
functioning. A center for teaching languages will also open
where students of linguistic faculties of the university will
study the second foreign language they choose, what will assist
unloading of academic hours. A computer center will also start
functioning in the institution of higher education soon.
In the Rector's words, the Center for Georgian Study will
open in the university in October, and the Armenology Center
will re-open later.
Touching upon the inner-university problems from the
veiwpoint of education quality, Aram Simonian mentioned that
there is much to do in this sector. The Rector did not exclude,
either, that the institution of higher education is corrupted:
"Yes, corruption exists in our institution of higher education
as well. There are so many complaints. They are not all
slanderers, are they? There is no smoke without fire." The
Rector mentioned at the same time that he is not sure that he
may "suppress" it very quickly. A.Simonian expects in this issue
assistance of the university students' structures as well as
parents' and students' chastity.
