YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. "Betrayal of the way of writing granted by the God is unworthy for our nation, and we discredit ourselves, not re-establishing it. Our nation, cut off real roots, is condemned to drying," Tom Samuelian, a lecturer of the American University of Armenia stated at the September 5 gathering of members of the Union Mesropian Orthography Supporters. In the Diasporan Armenian intellectual's words, 15 years ago, the Armenian people was not yet ready to refuse the language policy obliged to him, but today it will become the best step on the threshold of the 15th anniversary of the Armenian Independence. In words of Khoren Palian, a senior lecturer of the Yerevan State University, famous Armenian intellectuals, including linguist Hrachia Acharian, poet Paruyr Sevak, etc., were sure in the necessity of passing to the classic orthography. In his words, if the Armenian Genocide did not take place, this issue would not exist, either, and the nation would today be more healthy and united.
