RA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ADOPTS LAW ON ORGANIZATION OF FUNERALS
AND OPERATION OF CEMETERIES AND CREMATORIUMS

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 27, NOYAN TAPAN. On February 27, the RA
National Assembly adopted in third reading the draft law on
organization of funerals and operation of cemeteries and
crematoriums, which was discussed during the previous 4-day
session. Based on it, a cremation may be done by the written
expression of will of the dead person or those who bear
responsibility for the funeral. Cremation is mandatory in case
of a danger to the sanitary and epidemiological situation. In
such cases bodies must be cremated within two days. The burial
and cremation order shall be established by the RA government.
According to the draft, the burial of the dead person is to
be done no sooner than 24 hours after the death. A land area of
2.5 square meters is allocated for committing the body to the
ground. The maximum sixe of land to be allocated for a familiy
grave must not exceed 12 square meters. It is allocated gratis,
and payments are to be made in case of the land area exceeding
12 sq. m. The draft also allows a re-burial at an already
existing grave with the permission of those who bear
responsibility for the funeral's organization - no earlier than
15 years after the last burial.
